Current situation: The Madness of the Betrayer has a uptime >90%. Expected situation: The Madness of the Betrayer shoud have 1ppm (30%-50% uptime).

adness of the Betrayer is a 1 PPM effect. It therefore runs 40-50% uptime. Based off this information and the Rogue Gear Spreadsheet, we draw the following conclusions: For a rogue, Dragonspine is still the best trinket in the game. At late T5/early T6 type itemization, Warp Spring Coil is the 2nd best trinket for a rogue; however, as one moves into late T6 itemization, Madness and Ashtongue Talisman compete for the #2 slot; I believe Ashtongue to be slightly ahead for most rogues. I can't comment for other classes, but given that other classes can't use either Ashtongue or WSC, it seems likely to me that Dragonspine Trophy/Madness of the Betrayer is the optimal combo for them. However, it should be noted that a warrior will typically contribute more DPS to the raid by using Solarian's Sapphire over Madness of the Betrayer, assuming said warrior is placed in a group with at least 2 other melee DPSers (which, in my experience, is fairly common)

[Madness of the Betrayer] - +300 armour pentration for 10s, 1 PPM on melee/ranged hit, no cooldown

dangreenberggit commented 9 years ago

Not much info here. If there's no internal cooldown than you don't really know what the PPM is since it's a proc chance on hit, so the proc chance would be a more useful number, and then you have to measure instant attacks and haste to determine how many hits are actually happening in a minute.

ghost commented 9 years ago

It is a PPM, if you don't know what a PPM is, please dont comment reports.

Without a 40 second internal cooldown, it is not an absolute PPM, but rather a proc chance per hit based on weapon damage.

From your own link:

PPM scales to PPH according to weapon speed. Here is the formula:

PPH = (Weapon speed) / (60 / PPM) which is the same as:

PPH = Weapon speed * PPM / 60 This gives the percentage chance that the proc will be triggered each hit. Note that PPM is an average, not a guarantee.

PPM & Haste The speed used for calculating the PPH ( Proc per Hit ) chance is the basic weapon speed, not the characters haste-affected hit speed. This means the probability of a proc is not lowered or increased by haste. What haste does is increase the total amount of melee hits per time and thus the total amount of procs.

There is no such thing as "an absolute PPM". The PPM value has nothing to do with internal cooldowns. You can have an ICD and a high chance or no ICD and a low chance. Both can result in 1 ppm under default conditions (meaning: no abilities used, no misses/dodges/parrys, no haste, 2H weapon or 2x 1H weapon of same speed).

But this discussion is completely missing the point of this report. This is about retail data suggesting 30-50% uptime for T6-equipped melees while feenix data gives us 90%+ uptime for them. So we have 2-3x the uptime we would expect. This suggests that there is a flaw somewhere in the calculation.

Back to the real topic: One possibility for the severely increased uptime is that the ppm value and thus the chance of this proc is just too high. This could be fixed with a small DB update. The other possibility is that there is a fundamental flaw in the proc system itself which causes the problem. I am working on a test to get reliable data indicating which of the two it is. In both cases the end result should be that the feenix data roughly matches the retail data instead of beeing completely different.

still bugged

Current situation: Madness of the Betrayer (32505) has a PPM of 1.7, and a proc chance per hit of 2.83% x weapon speed (1.7 PPM with one weapon and no haste effects or extra attacks) . The proc (40475) activates the buff Forceful Strike (40477). The lack of internal cooldown appears to be correct.

Expected situation: Madness of the Betrayer should have a proc chance per hit of 1.66% x weapon speed (1 PPM with one weapon, no haste effects or additional attacks).
