Yup, this was done intentionally to avoid having people wreck their phones
again (re. the iTunes 7.3 -> 7.4
upgrade fiasco).

will 1.3 support iTunes 7.5, or should we downgrade to iTunes 7.4?
any idea of when 1.3 will be released?

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
Even if you downgrade, independence doesn't seem to work (just crashes)....
Apple did something nasty.

No worries. I have figured out a way to directly include the old version of
the MobileDevice library in the
iNdependence application bundle. This allows you to have iTunes 7.5 installed,
but still have iNdependence
work properly.

I have tested this and verified that it works (downgraded to 1.0.2, jailbroke,
upgraded to 1.1.1, and jailbroke
again). I've updated the source and build instructions in SVN. Now I just
need to create an app or script
which allows people who don't have XCode installed to do this since it requires
the "install_name_tool"
program (which isn't installed by default on Mac OS X).

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
ok, I found the source code for install_name_tool in the cctools package on
Apple's open source website:

http://www.opensource.apple.com/darwinsource/DevToolsAug2006/

I'll just drop that into my source code and use it to copy the MobileDevice
library into iNdependence. Then I'll
just automate it in iNdependence somehow and everyone should be happy again.

I upgraded to itunes 7.5 then downgraded back to 7.4 now independece just keeps
crashing. Any ideas? or should I just wait for a new independence?

I have no idea how people are downgrading Basically, you need to make sure
that /System/Library/
PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework/ is the version that comes with iTunes
7.4.2.

It's getting close. I now have a GUI-based tool which will copy MobileDevice
into iNdependence (assuming users
select a version of MobileDevice which is from iTunes 7.4.2). This tool will
be required for the new version to
have it work properly.

Is there an easy way to force independence to launch anyway? I just want to
remove SSH on my already jailbroken
phone (which doesn't really care about what version of iTunes i have, right?)

Hi, question from a "newbie" and to avoid assumption on my part, will you
release a
new version of independence when you will have finalized the extra tool it
needs or
will it be/is it in the V 1.3 beta version?? Thank you.

thierry.preumont, it's already on the 1.3beta2 release, and it works like a
charm.

So the beta works fine with iTunes 7.5? I have an unlocked 1.0.2 phone that I
need to
virginize, upgrade, and re-unlock and all that jazz.

Hi. I'm MAC new user. I can not run iNdependence 1.3b2 with iTunes 7.5. I've
downloaded MovileDevice 7.4.2 framework, decompressed and copied the files to
/System/Library/
PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework/ iNdependence still shows the message
"Detected iTunes 7.5.... please choose location..." Do i've to do any other
step? My
OS X is 10.4.10. Thanks folks.

the
procedure in readme file.

Independence Version was 1.2.5.
Installed Indep. V 1.3b2
run the iNdependence MobDev Tool
update to Itunes 7.5
Everything works fine
just now waiting the update to prepare Iphone for Version 1.1.2 (because

I have downgrades iTunes from 7.5 to 7.4.2.

I have pointed iNdependence MovDev tool to the Mobile Device framework library
that comes with 7.4.2

/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework/

But it doesn't seem to recognise it... Where can i find a copy of the
MobileDevice.framework for 7.4.2????

Before deleting iTunes 7.5, delete the following files:

/System/Library/Extensions/AppleMobileDevice.kext
/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/DeviceLink.framework
/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework
/Library/Receipts/AppleMobileDeviceSupport.pkg

Then use AppZapper to remove what's left of iTunes 7.5

Finaly, install iTunes 4.7.2

I get an error... (Image attached)

This is beta2, running on Leopard 10.5.1 with iTunes 7.4.2 installed. I
haven't installed 7.5 yet, and I don't
want to unless or until I know that I can safely do so. Any thoughts Operator?

iNdependence MovDev tool will not recognize "MobileDevice_7_4_2.framework".

I have deleted all the iTunes 7.5 files as directed, then installed iTunes
4.7.2.
When I was finished there was no "MobileDevice_7_4_2.framework" in
PrivateFrameworks,
so I inserted the downloaded version, but iNdependence MovDev tool still says I
have 7.5,
and won't recognize the "MobileDevice_7_4_2.framework" that I just inserted.
What's going on?

I'm lost! I downgraded my iphone with 1.1.1 firmware, and I'm running iTunes
7.5, and
am unable to run the iNDependence MobDev Tool (which I can't find in the
MobileDevice_7_4_2 framework or the iNdependence folders). Where do I go from
here?
