A quick google search gave me this result : https://stackoverflow.com/questions/47136718/errorcom-android-builder-dexing-dexarchivebuilderexception-failed-to-process-g Your problem could be related to that.
I think @jy-roda's comment contains the answer. This library uses interfaces with default methods which comes with java8. If you want to use this library on android5 (or earlier) you would need to rewrite the code to make it java7 compatible.
Sadly google will probably end this project, so i can not encourage you to make major changes. As added to the readme: Google is planning to replace Google PlayMusic with Youtube Remix in late 2018. I therefore advice against using this API in new projects. Source
If this does not help with your problem, please provide further information, including your gradle file and java version

Great news! Google announced that the Google PlayMusic service will be available even after the replacement:
Absolutely nothing will be happening to Google Play Music for the time being, and it will remain the same as it always has been. Even those with family subscriptions won’t experience changes, though it’s unclear if they also will be receiving YouTube Music Premium as well. It’s confusing, but it also appears to benefit the consumers in the long run. Source
