A couple of issues to resolve:

[ ] I disliked the use of lib as the outDir for TypeScript as it means you can't have any directory called lib in your source tree due to the need to have lib in your .gitignore - I changed it to dist, but now you have to do npm run build before npm run dev, which isn't what we want. I'm not even sure how this was automagically working before when the outDir was lib?
[x] prettier (or possibly precise-commits) is for some reason changing tabs to spaces when running as part of the git pre-commit hook, even though it should be respecting the settings in the .editorconfig file. I'm not sure why this is. Perhaps we could try lint-staged instead to test if it's a precise-commits issue?
