Is a D3/Polymer Approach to the Timeline Worth Exploring?

Vega looks pretty hot for reusable visualization of JSON format data and now includes the D3 time format (see: https://github.com/vega/vega/issues/178). When I first asked Vega developers about supporting this I wasn't yet tuned into Web Components but it appears others have already mode some progress connecting these:
