Can't play in Tyrian 2000 mode

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Replace all the data files in the data folder (which are based on Tyr2.1 
with Tyr2000 files)
2. Run Opentyrian (doubleclick opentyrian.exe in the game's main folder)
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
It is supposed to play as Tyrian 2000, complete with all the new weapons 
(needle laser for example) and the new Super Tyrian modes (the dragon and the 
pretzel truck)
What happens instead is opentyrian.exe crashes immediately upon starting.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
I'm using the latest available version of Opentyrian, as of 12/19/2013 at 3:30 
AM PST
My OS is Windows7 Home Premium x64.

Tyrian 2000 support is experimental and incomplete.  None of the developers are 
interested in working on it, but we would accept code patches from anyone who 
is.  Sorry.

It is not incomplete as you claim. Rather, from my own experience, it is 
nonexistent. The moment I try to run OpenTyrian with Tyrian 2000 data in the 
data folder (in place of the Tyrian 2.1 data), it crashes.
