awesome to hear from the original creator/dev! I hope that all the previous devs are able to see this because i can't take full credit for this but thank you. long live wiiflow!
Hi Hibernatus,
You've really made the most impressive homebrew with WiiFlow. I doubt any of the following developpers would have been able to achieve this piece of art. Off course, there's been a lot of work after your v1 too, with fledge68 and fix94 notably. But, it's still amazing considering the Wii specs and the lack of official gx documentation. I guess you already had a solid gl or equivalent knowledge?
Not related but your work on Scumm games translations was more than welcome. But no, 2003 really!?
Un grand MERCI !!!
Hey @Wiimpathy , thanks for the very kind words.
I wasn't seeking recognition back then, only a fun challenge, but it feels nice nowadays to find so many videos about WiiFlow on YouTube and thinking "I've done that". (or "I started that", to be fair)
I had some experience in "legacy" OpenGL, yes, thanks to an aborted 2D game project in 2002 (first attempt) and in 2006 (second attempt). But I remember there was an amazing devkit making it as easy as developing with an official API such as OpenGL on PC. All the hard work was already done before I even bought my Wii :)
Hi,
About 12 years ago, after reading that some impressive hackers had made it possible to develop homebrews on the Wii, I bought one, as well as a Zelda game. Four days later, I had made a "coverflow" demo that I immediately posted on a forum.
Then I quickly made a game launcher out of it. I remember someone nicknamed Blinddude posted a video of the beta version on YouTube and some people became very excited about it. Then my brother told me I'm crazy because there was my real name in the credits and that probably was illegal, so I used my nickname instead: Hibernatus.
My code was very badly designed but the end result made me very proud anyway. And it was so much more fun than my day job (business apps).
I stopped working on it and released the source code in September, I think it was v1.1, but I still have v1.2 on my Wii. I must have fixed a few more bugs but only for myself :)
I can't believe developers have been maintaining my horrible code for such a long time. I suppose most of it has been rewritten. I'm impressed and I hope to find some time soon to have a look at all the great job you all have done.
Anyway, I'm on GitHub now and so is WiiFlow. So I thought I should at least drop by to say "hello, my son" ;)
