Login fails with 'no SAML response, incorrect password?'

Despite using the correct password, login fails with:

Logging into ILIAS using KIT account..
Logging into Shibboleth..
Error: no SAML response, incorrect password?

This error occurs if the user hasn't manually logged into ILIAS and needs to accept the initial SSO conditions.
