+5 volt shorting to ground #5

Hi All,

This may be a stupid question but would welcome your take.

Since getting all the capacitors on the board, the other components were already in place, I am now seeing a short between the +5 volts and the ground when doing a continuity test.

Is this normal when only the passives are in place, none of the IC's are installed yet. I only noticed it since installing C214, C226 and C913 (all three are by the VIDOT/HY200). I have check for any obvious issues such as polarity on the Capacitors but they look fine visually.

Had a look at a 500+ board and this does the same but only for a second.

Would welcome any guidance here.

Ive never noticed that. Its possible some other component prevents that like a diode or a load on the IC's when installed, but I am not sure. I can only test with the boards I get produced and that wouldnt help you much if it was different and yours was made from another manufacturer.

Hi Paul,

Thank you for replying so quickly.

All the diodes are in place, just checked their polarity and they all look okay.

Only have the crystal (X1) and R2/C1 to fit. I suspect this may be down to an IC, as you suggest, which aren't in place yet so will fit these and run another continuity test.

The board was from Bob's bits on Tindie, and is 1.8.5 and looks identical to the component locator.

Many thanks
