Smart collections to group assets by their properties #99

Open ninaeberle opened 2 years ago

ninaeberle commented 2 years ago

Description

By having the option to categorize or sort assets in different folders, the user can create their own folder structure. Not only self-created folders but also folders that include certain attributes like "Last modified" or "Marked red" that are predefined.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Go to the new Media Module
  2. Choose a folder or add a folder
  3. Add folder within the folder

Expected behavior

Likewise, the tool of smart collections in Adobe Lightroom Classic offers an automatic management of files, which are provided with specific properties.

The layout simplifies the search and management of individual files and also enables them to be sorted into certain collections. Projected onto the media module, the creation of smart collections could solve some problems regarding the categorization of the media. For example, it could be considered to sort assets by subject and classify these image files into smart collections according to specified characteristics.

This could look something like the folder structure here:

Bildschirmfoto 2021-07-23 um 13 49 44 Bildschirmfoto 2021-11-02 um 16 22 53

Actual behavior

In the current module it is possible to create folders or collections. However, you cannot create a folder structure in which you can sort the assets.

Hi @ninaeberle, thx for creating the issue and adding the helpful screenshots. We have the folder topic already in #64. So maybe you can add your ideas there.

I will not close this issue as duplicate because you also mention the "Smart Folders". So maybe we just relabel this issue to that topic and see it as feature request for the feature in #64.
