"...multidisciplinary tool used to answer ecological, atmospheric science, and oceanography questions." (for edits like this i'm just rewriting it in a way that makes more sense to me)
"as a resource for authors, journal editors, and funding bodies to facilitate FAIR sharing of biologging data."
for Table 1
should we/do we need to add that this is adapted from Wilkinson et al. (2016)?
add 1-2 examples of a "searchable resource" in Findability (I'm thinking google scholar and web of science)
remove periods from Findability and Reusability examples in table 1 (or add periods to the other sections)
Reusability example from for "data reuse, e.g., whether the animal was relocated before release." to "for data reuse (e.g., whether the animal was relocated before release)"
for Methods
"The focus of this review is on biologging devices that 1) use sensors (as opposed to acoustic or radio transmitters) 2) are deployed on unrestrained, undomesticated animals
should we clarify what properties of Argos tags/the Argos system are more similar to sensor-based biologgers? it is not clear to me why they would be included but more senior readers might know so maybe not necessary!
for Initial Classification
"Papers will be considered relevant if they satisfy the following two criteria"
for Assessing open data
Is it fine that early has more years within it than middle and recent? I'm thinking its because there were less papers but if not please let me know!
"For each sampled paper, we will attempt to retrieve the studies' biologging dataset."
For these two principles: (Do the data have a permanent identifier, such as a DOI? (FAIR principle F1) and Are the data retrievable via a standard communications protocol, such as HTTP? (FAIR principle A1) I think we should reference Box 2 from Wilkinson et al since we do not explain what F1 and A1 are. Maybe we could just have it be "Do the data have a permanent identifier, such as a DOI? (FAIR principle F1, see Wilkinson et al. (2016))" or see above comment about Table 1 and maybe there is a resolution there?!?
"If we cannot retrieve the dataset for a study, we will consider the study to not have satisfied any of the properties listed above."
for Analysis
I personally don't understand the math of it all but reading it makes sense and I can follow it so no notes there!
H3 is listed twice. Second H3 should be "Spatial biologging data are shared more often than aspatial (e.g., accelerometer) data."
Am I correct in understanding that we are only looking at 2023 data for hypotheses 2 and 3? If so, can I get a refresh on why that is.
for Results
"We have some preliminary data from the initial classification step, but we have not yet begun assessing open data."
for Simulation
looks good!
Do we need to include captions that explain each of the graphs?
Hope these are helpful! Please let me know if you have any questions or if there is anything I can clarify :) Thanks for everything Max!!
P.S I am working on editing some other little things but need more time to think on them so I will make a second one of these later!
