Arc encodes the capsid GAG domain, which self-assembles into a virus-like-capsid containing Arc mRNA. The capsid might recruit ALIX, enhancing the budding of the plasma membrane and the secretion of EVs containing Arc capsid and mRNA"...."For instance, the mammalian gene PEG10 and the neuronal gene ARC are both LTR retrotransposons encoding for GAG analogs. They self-assemble and encapsulate their own mRNA before being secreted in EVs. The PEG10 gene encodes the capsid, nucleocapsid, protease and retro-transcriptase GAG domains."
