Deadline to apply is today. Meeting is February 8-9.
Are either of us going? If so, are we presenting anything? If not, do we need to send Chris/Jeff anything to present about our part of the project? Are there any results that I should try to have in time for the meeting?
Updates from last week
Hector -- Spent my entire week on this, because I was hoping to have preliminary GCAM-Hector results for the Earth System Modeling meeting on Thursday.
Basic GCAM run -- Done. I also have a general sense of how to
Understand GCAM output -- Sort-of. I know in general how to get tabular output, though the process seems more involved than it should be. Seems like there are lots of opportunities to make rgcam (and the GCAM interface in general) more user-friendly.
At some point, I would be interested in writing a small proposal (LDRD?) to create a PEcAn-like user interface around GCAM, including solidifying the R API (rgcam); creating a GCAM Docker container; create a system for executing GCAM remotely, e.g. via a REST API (plumber package?); and creating a web interface (shiny?) around running GCAM. If the opportunity arises, I'll need to sit down with Pralit, Robert, etc. to get a better sense of what has been done already, and how to do this properly.
Paper outline: Did a bit more reading, and added some notes and references to outline.
(Not on last week's to-do list) Created a personal branch of Hector that allows user to pass exogenous CO2 and CH4 emissions as input. Modified my existing Hector permafrost project code to use this approach to run Hector with exogenous permafrost and the RCPs, and to create all the required input files to run GCAM-Hector with permafrost emissions.
FoRTE (reading, paper outline) -- Didn't get to.
GCB review -- Accepted invitation, but didn't get to. Deadline is January 24, so I have time.
Goals for this week
Hector
Earth System Modeling team presentation on Hector-permafrost project (already in progress, but need to add my preliminary results)
Run GCAM-Hector with permafrost scenarios
I'm currently having trouble compiling GCAM against the current GitHub version of Hector (R package). I was going to ask Robert and Pralit for some help on the GCAM Slack channel. I was able to narrow down the problem to just a few lines, so hopefully it won't take too long to resolve.
