  • 100-year FoRTE runs:
  • Trait inputs -- removed some unimportant/irrelevant traits, added others based on previous studies or ones that were relevant to radiative transfer
  • Met product -- added Moana Loa / Law Dome CO2 record
  • Restarted runs yesterday (5/28)

Project status

• [FoRTE] ED2 structural uncertainty paper
  • 100-year runs are running now. If all goes well, this could be the set of simulations we use for the initial submission.
  • Outstanding tasks:
    • Analysis and coding
      • Make sure PEcAn sensitivity and uncertainty analysis is correct
      • Process 100 year results; adjust analyses, visualizations if necessary
      • Compare against current observations from UMBS
    • Writing -- Everything
    • First draft to Ben by June 21; discuss week of June 24-28
    • Send complete draft to co-authors by July 3; expect comments by end of July (~3 weeks)
    • Revise and submit by end of August
• [Hector] Permafrost emissions sensitivity
  • (1) Parameter sensitivity analysis with current, global Hector
    • Basically done. Could set more informative parameter distributions, but code is written and doesn't take long to run.
  • (2) Parameter sensitivity analysis with multiple biomes
    • No sensitivity analysis, but my branch of Hector supports setting parameters with multiple biomes, so shouldn't be too much work to move this forward.
  • (3) Sensitivity analysis with CH4 emissions
    • Not started.
  • Have code and preliminary analyses for stages (2) and (3) done by end of July
  • Paper outline done by end of August
  • Paper draft done by end of October
  • Submit paper by mid-December (AGU)

Discussion notes from meeting:

• @ashiklom will spend more upfront time on Hector (~25-50% June-September), to hit ~300 hours between now by end of FY19 (mid September).
• @ashiklom will push back some FoRTE outline deadlines by 1-2 weeks. New deadlines are:
  • Fleshed out outline (topic sentences, etc.) to @bpbond by June 11
  • Complete draft to @bpbond by July 3
  • Final draft out to co-authors in early August
  • End of August submission may still be feasible
• PREMIS/LDRD PEcAn spending and goals look good.
  • @ashiklom and @bpbond agreed that @ashiklom spending <= 5 hours / week (of LDRD time) on PEcAn project management was appropriate

@ashiklom's additional travel:

• NASA SBG all-hands meeting June 12-14 (downtown DC)
• Vacation July 23 - Aug 4
• PNNL post-grad symposium August 14, with possible extended trip to Richland August 13-16
• NASA TE meeting September 23-27 (downtown DC; probably only 3-4 of those days)
