basic nirv support #9

Generates time series of NIRv!

Apart from my hilarious attempt to squash my commits (it's been awhile since I've haven't just yolo worked on master...), this should be pretty self contained.

Oh man look at that squash -- I went from three to five commits. haha. don't judge too hard.

@bpbond see issue #10. happy to just dump to data/ if that's easiest, but seems like once we start having EC data and chamber data, we can potentially run into some pretty nasty conflicts.
