A small help link in every interactive widget #124

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
It might be a help to users if there was a small help link (maybe a
question mark icon, or a small, medium grey, text link saying "help") on
every widget, that when clicked would pop up a concise help message.

This message would be most useful if it was different for each kind of
widget and provided links to more comprehensive documentation.

Alternatively, rather than having a single popup, multiple small popups
could appear, labelling each element of the widget with an appropriate
message[1].

Ideally the help link could be disabled by users.

[1] Comment 7 on issue 109 might be relevant here.
[2] implementing this would be much easier if we could had a better
javascript library, as described in issue 122.

This sounds like a very good idea. However, there should also be a way to turn
it off
for more advanced users. (and back on for demos...)

The popup should be different when a "display" security mode is selected,
alerting
the user that no interactivity is possible.

So, should we try to get this into 1.0? I think so - it will make Crunchy that
bit
more "usable" for novices.

Yes, I think we should get this into 1.0. To do it properly though, we'd
probably
need to take care of issue 122.

I think we should have one, perhaps two "trial releases" before 1.0. The next
one
could be 0.9.9.3. This would be to work all the bugs out.

OK, I'm going to create a branch to experiment with this and issue 122. I don't
want
to try and implement issue 122 in the trunk because it will likely cause lots
ad lots
of bugs.

This is implemented. The UI could possibly be improved, but I'm changing the
status
to "fixed" nonetheless given no concrete suggestion for improvements.
