Some configuration values are not saved properly (andre's branch)

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Start crunchy and change some default value (e.g. crunchy.friendly)
2. Quit and restart

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The value should be remembered from one session to the next.  It does not
appear to be done consistently.

This may be related to the fact that the user's directory are not set
properly - preferences might be retrieved from an old single user's preference.
