[feature request] Show related phonetic kanji in browser #82

I have a plugin for bulk-adding phonetics to cards and it's been useful to anyone trying to learn kanji. https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/1459981298

I'm wondering if you think it would make a good feature to add to the kanji web browser view?

I parsed the phonetics json from the reliable phonetic sources I could find: Townsend research, Togugu article

That seems like it would be pretty useful. Yomichan now has two flexible database tables for adding metadata about terms and Kanji (that's how frequencies are implemented), so basically the work involved would be adding support to yomichan-import, some glue code in translator.js and then just the Kanji template in kanji.html. Are you volunteering? :smirk_cat:

Ha of course, but probably cannot until after the JLPT in December and Templated Search feature, but I'll save that excitement for that thread :).

Adding it to the Kanji page is good and useful, but adding it to the word list page is more useful imo. That's what my python program does (albeit primitevely). Are your furigana-plain fields word based or kanji group based? eg: 効果[こうか] vs 効[こう] 果[か]

FooSoft commented 7 years ago

@gajewsk2 the furigana stuff is based on groups. Actually looking up based on readings would be pretty complicated (not to mention slow, considering we are working with IndexedDB).
