My quick thought on this is that for food safety and infectious diseases we will need to include wildlife animals that may be consumed as food. So I think the "in nature" part covers that but I don't think we need to specify domesticated animals.
And what about plants ?

About " with a focus on domesticated animal and human-centric categorization and handling of food" I mean them as consumers. Perhaps better to say:
"It encompasses materials in natural ecosystems and agriculture that are consumed by humans and domesticated animals".
We're discussing this in FoodOn curation call:
"A broadly scoped ontology representing entities which bear a “food role”. It encompasses materials in natural ecosystems and agriculture that are consumed by humans and domesticated animals. FoodOn aims to name any generic (unbranded) raw or processed food material also found in processing plants, markets, stores or food distribution points. FoodOn also imports nutritional component and dietary pattern terms from other OBO Foundry ontologies to support interoperability in diet and nutrition research."
As there are no other comments I'll close this and make change in OBO Foundry.
Right now the OBO Foundry description of FoodOn reads:
description: A broadly scoped ontology representing entities which bear a “food role”. It encompasses materials in natural ecosystems and food webs as well as human-centric categorization and handling of food.
I'm thinking we have to revise the last part since FoodOn hasn't so far pursued ecosystem terminology or food webs outside of agricultural ones? It would be something like:
A broadly scoped ontology representing entities which bear a “food role”. It encompasses materials in natural ecosystems and agriculture with a focus on domesticated animal and human-centric categorization and handling of food. FoodOn aims to name any generic (unbranded) raw or processed food product found in nature, in agriculture, in food processing, or in markets, stores or food distribution points.
