Improve installation PROTEUS instructions #26

I went through the installation instructions in INSTALL.md and tried to find any rough edges. A few things that would be good to further clarify:

It may be the person has neither brew nor macports installed. A link to where/how to install these would be helpful in Step 1
Step 3.vi: It is unclear how make.globaloptions must be set on MacOS. For SOCRATES (3.iv) the installation is much clear and more straightforward. It would be good to give an example or a hint on how to find out which is the appropriate executable, and how to set it correctly.

Please add further suggestions to this issue as you discover them.

Added many fixes and troubleshooting tips for installations on ARM and Intel Macs.
