It is very important that the time-step provided to SPIDER is reasonable, since it directly determines how easily it can feedback with other components of the wider model.
There are currently three schemes for setting the time-step, but none of them are very good. It would certainly be worthwhile thinking about more robust methods for setting this value, and also having it adjust to various conditions in an appropriate way (e.g. decreasing to resolve sudden changes in a variable).
