This app will not work on iOS Safari, so doing something like this would be a bit premature. The app might need to run as a native app in order for it to work consistently on all devices. There are too many unknowns, at the moment, for it to make sense to do something like this.
The app sharing idea (the original idea via the decentralized web) will not work with iOS Safari because they have not integrated WebRTC APIs. We could, if we wanted to, still develop an offline first iOS app that records/captures videos/gifs, stores them locally and then the user can share them via current methods (email, messaging apps, centralized social networks). This way we can still showcase offline capabilities for a webapp.
Hmm, I'm not sure if it's worth it. What do you think? I think I would prefer to skip this for now, and maybe circle back later. Think I should reopen this issue?
Oh, yeah, I added my thoughts before so that we can continue this conversation in the future when/if we decide to pursue this feature. I added it to a new column Ether in the Thicket project - it is not really done and it is closed.
Do you think it would communicate similar intent if we don't put it on the Lab Experiment board at all, but simply leave it open and off the board?
Yeah. Lets do that.
If the user is on a mobile device, we want to let them know that they can add the site as an app on their home screen, and explain how to do so.
