Icon Request: fa-generator (portable or permanent machine that generates electricity) #16967

Electric generators are commonly used in industry, and increasingly by individuals to generate power wherever and whenever they need it.

There currently isn't any icon that directly represents this piece of equipment. Search on "generator" produces icons for wind turbines and refrigerators. Bolt could suffice as a last resort, but it doesn't really represent generating electricity well. I use Industry to represent generating data in some applications, but that wouldn't work well to represent a piece of equipment, especially a portable generator.

What would this icon look like? I'm not sure that the typical portable electric generator lends itself well to an icon that people can easily understand. Maybe an engine (#4175) with a bolt superimposed?

Hi! My company develops O&M software for critical power systems and infrastructure. It would be really helpful to have a genset / generator icon for us as well. I think that something like the two examples below would do the trick. I agree iwth @jbnv that the portable kind would not be as recognizable although some with a discerning eye could figure it out. image image

This is a quick update to let folks know that we’re refining our icon request workflow behind the scenes, and as part of that we’re going through all open requests and filing them into several new buckets to be addressed.

In this case we’ve added this issue to our new list to be created! We can’t promise any firm timelines right now, but this will help us keep track of it.

We’ll update this issue when the icon is released into the wild 🙂
