Hello,

First of all, thanks for the great work on font-awesome.

LaTeX is a document preparation system, based on TeX (by Donald Knuth), which is the de-facto standard in scientific and mathematical printing. LaTeX source code files usually have the .tex extension, so a tex icon pretty much both file formats.

Use cases:

  1. In a page where you can download ebooks (pdf, epub, etc.), provide the option to download the LaTeX source code.
  2. In HTML pages generated from LaTeX documents, provide the option to download the source code of the page. (I personally convert LaTeX to HTML this to publish online old documents that were created with printing in mind)

Images: Both TeX and LaTeX are usually styled with the E a bit lower, so that's probably the most recognizable image. See, for instance

This is a quick update to let folks know that we’re refining our icon request workflow behind the scenes, and as part of that we’re going through all open requests and filing them into several new buckets to be addressed.

In this case we’ve added this issue to our new list to be created! We can’t promise any firm timelines right now, but this will help us keep track of it.

We’ll update this issue when the icon is released into the wild 🙂
