If we add these, would it be possible to map them to the assigned Unicode code points rather than the PUA? Whilst ordinarily we don't want to interfere Screen readers, this would seem to be a case where they would legitimate semantic meaning.

:+1: :100: For standard male and female symbol, and although this may present a challenge i would suggest the possibility of a nice single 'universal' icon that covers everything else (others, rather not say, post/pre trans etc etc etc)

This would complete the icon's needed for the majority of standard forms, among other things.

Nope. I'm not a fan of those symbols, as there is no intuitive difference when I look at them. They also just look ugly.

Get creative. Use the restroom iconography of man and woman (which has dress/wider base). We can further change the CSS color to blue and pink or something. It doesn't have to be those "ugly" symbols...Just something to signify gender would be great. Maybe even extend it and add a man, woman, and crawling baby and/or children or something.

Hi,

Even this issue is closed I want to make a observation about the suggested icons for male (organism) and female (organism) that was declined - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gender_symbol. I think that this two are valid icons besides the created ones because they are more generic. Currently I've a system that is about horses and I need to show the gender of each horse listed, using the currently icons that symbols a boy and girl doesn't fit well with horses, the male organism and female organism symbols would be a way better. To overcome the lack of these icons in fontawesome I'm using the unicode chars for it, but if it was provided by fontawesome my code would be more consistent.
