An icon that represents 'reading and writing' or just 'reading' such as the following:

I imagine this to be a nearly identical version of #176 (open book), with the sole addition of (part of) a person's head.

There are more elaborate icons around on the web that wouldn't be appropriate (e.g. http://www.wpclipart.com/education/reading/reading_3/reading_icon_2.png).

reading is abstract, something like user-reading-book isn't

It could be a good starting point for #6911 as well. Add a "thumb up" on the left and some lines on the right side of the book and it would be #6911 - https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leichte_Sprache#/media/File:Leichte_sprache_logo.svg or a professionel example: https://www.gruenderwoche.de/assets/bilder/90x62/leichte_sprache_icon_90__62.jpeg
