Revelations of the sandwich, Part 4. Inside the hidden cavity within the viol lay a scroll-shaped stone, inscribed with the secret. Melodies made it thrum with hidden harmonies as the musician innocently sawed at the strings, oblivious to the presence of the device. Yet the audience was somehow aware that an extraordinary event was happening. They gazed in wonder, leaning forward in their seats with hushed breath, as the sound played with their ears, and their eyes, and their very essences. Sharp was their attention, focused into a single rhythm of breath as the performance unfolded, trills and cascades of notes unfolding into a gestalt of semi-conscious synesthetic rapture. The impending force of the crescendo approached. Then somebody farted.

One day a tiny insect named Pete with only five legs crawled onto the tabletop. He smelled the butter, but his mother had told him; "Never climb the great Tabletop, lame Peter, for your shortcomings risk a great fall. Be content with scurrying under the sacred Refrigerator with your younger siblings, and do not yield to the dreams of madness that the blue food brings us from time to time." But so it was that he had indeed ascended to the full height of the Tabletop, and stood proudly on his five legs, gazing in wonderment at the scene below. His brethren looked like ants, and their cries were scarcely audible. What was it they called to him? "Butter"? Certainly, he thought, the hero triumphant shall return with trophies of the conquest. And so it was that he was mashed flat by the butter dish.
