frsky tandem x20 + Ethos support TBS Crossfire TX - Long Range ?

andika207 commented 3 years ago

@abdidarmawan007 Crossfire and Ghost are in the process of getting support for ETHOS...but I don't know about other modules like MPM

abdidarmawan007 commented 3 years ago

@andika207 thanks for the info, i hope ETHOS in the future not vendor lock like DJI

the community doesn't like that

I have to ask this: What about TBS locking out FrSky from their Tango2?

abdidarmawan007 commented 3 years ago

You are right

im use radiomaster tx16s after some deliberation

bsongis-frsky commented 3 years ago

TBS module support is planned, we just have more urgent work to do before, especially Lua scripts support!

Target0815 commented 3 years ago

TBS module support is planned ...

Is there anything new about this yet?

Also, whether there will be an SBUS output on the module port besides PPM (currently), CRSF (soon). I would like to operate a Dragonlink there.

OlegStelmakh commented 3 years ago

Hi! Any news about?

goryc commented 3 years ago

I would also like to have some updates on waiting times, thanks!

PD5DJ commented 3 years ago

If they dont answer in a couple of days I am just going to return the thing and get something like radiomaster kind of a shame it is a nice radio On Wed, Aug 4, 2021, 6:26 AM goryc @.***> wrote: I would also like to have some updates on waiting times, thanks! — You are receiving this because you commented. Seriously? you bought an X20 even knowing TBS Xfire support will be not there? hmmmm. Ethos is brand new and basic stuff is just starting to get shape.. and you expected to have 3rd party device support already? Just be patient, it will come eventually, more important stuf to get Ethos even ready for 3rd party stuff has more priority i am sure you can understand that right?! There are many many many more stuff to get right first.

loetefix commented 3 years ago

Getting LUA is much more important.

PD5DJ commented 3 years ago

The whole point is that you are now angry because you bought something where you knew beforehand that there was no support for crossfire at the time of purchase. And that you now blame someone else, that your wish is not fulfilled is just not real. Since it has been said "somewhere" that it is "possibly" being worked on in the future, this should already have been a signal for you not to buy it now. You should have just waited, then the disappointment was probably just not that great. Blaming others, that really makes no sense. That's the world upside down.

I would indeed send it back in your case, and wait until Crossfire is ever supported.

andika207 commented 3 years ago

I'm not stupid dont treat me as if I am.

@fyad88 so you didn't realize it wasn't TBS capable so far but you do know how to find a TBS related issue on github ?
meanwhile others are patiently waiting for the HD version or LUA scripts to come out but they dont show up on github crying out loud. of course you are a stupid troll. sell it, toss it out the window or do whatever you want, Frsky won't miss you. it's your own problem if you have already sold (whatever you did) your old transmitter

LordGeorge-1992 commented 3 years ago

Very interested to see when Frsky are planning to spill the roadmap on crossfire support. Lua seems like it’s only a matter of time now.

There will be allot of people, including myself that are holding back purchasing a X20/s/HD until support is established. I can’t wait, however it’s pointless purchasing something you can’t use. Do you have a eta at all Frsky ?

You can run your crossfire on ppm until serial is ready. I wouldn't count on it being added unless someone from the community finds it in their heart to do it. Like when frsky switched to the slow inverters in the X line of transmitters to break crossfire functionality. Only to hurt their own speeds of the r9 system. Requiring new access transmitters. It will take someone in the community to make a fix. Ppm will get you what you need and you can use the crossfires wifi and an esp8266 like the esp-12s or esp-12e to get mavlink telemetry on a tracker. Or you can go direct to crossfire to display telemetry on a phone, tablet, or pc. There is always a work around.

Landairfpv commented 3 years ago

Really good looking radio and almost pulled the trigger until I read there is no crsf, ghost, and express lrs support. Hopefully once the the lua scripts get worked on the customers will get the features. Keep up the hard work and I will definitely check back later. Again, great looking radio.

dotlolz commented 2 years ago

Hi I am reopening this since 1.1 is out and Lua most likely working. Can we have a roadmap for external protocols support please? Keep in mind that it was one of the features that was present on the original product description and is a major selling point for lot of us as Expresslrs and crossfire is widely present on the multirotor community.

Regards

OlegStelmakh commented 2 years ago

Waiting too for CRSF support

Target0815 commented 2 years ago

I am also discouraged from using Ethos by the lack of support for SBUS and CRSF. LUA is available now, then these things should be implemented. No one expects it overnight, but TBS and others provided FrSky with appropriate hardware for implementation over a year ago.

As I see it, FrSky does not have to write LUA scripts for other hardware, but without the implementation of CRSF and SBUS on the module port, nothing can be done properly. PPM is very old and Ethos should be more advanced ...

jbienz commented 2 years ago

Just wanted to express my concern and desire for multiprotocol support over serial. This is the only thing keeping me from switching entirely to the x20S and letting go of my Spektrum radio.

Adelaxie commented 2 years ago

ETHOS being a newly created closed source system our first priority is stability and ease of use of its functions. When that goal is accomplished, we will add support for other protocols/functions. We hope this will be recognized by everyone.

ETHOS will support some of the external protocols. This includes 1. The brand protocols require manufacturer support and test samples during the development process. 2. Some popular open-source protocols.

Our R&D team is currently focusing on launching ETHOS SUITE, software for updating and flashing radios.

Thank you for your support.

kroniX20S commented 2 years ago

Hi Adelaxie,

this is really appreciated, LUA implementation is done and very valued, Ethos Suite looks brilliant - at least the bits that were shown.

MPM support (or the lack of it!) would be a very important argument for Ethos, this is the only thing holding many potential buyers back from ordering. If you - like me - have 20+ receivers in other protocols installed in other protocols, you wont switch over to FrSky, even if you wanted too. Me - and many others - would switch over immediately, if that wouldn‘t mean so much trouble with old (but loved) planes.

Others will buy other brands who offer MPM compatibility for exactly that reason.

Ethos is fantastic, so is the X20S - but this is a very high and unnecessary hurdle - 10 arguments for changing to FrSky, but this one killer argument is enough not to do so and look elsewhere or stick with what you already have.

kroniX20S commented 2 years ago

A definitive statement like „yes, support for MPM/ELRS/XFire will come within the next 6 month“ or „no, we will not support anything outside ACCESS“ would clarify the strategy and avoid frustration within your customer base the the large group of potential customers.

jbienz commented 2 years ago

I echo everything @kroniX20S wrote. In both messages. Though I don't personally own ELRS or XFire, I do badly need MPM for all the reasons stated.

ETHOS will support some of the external protocols. This includes 1. The brand protocols require manufacturer support and test samples during the development process.

My understanding is that TBS has already provided samples of their MPM module to FrSky. Can you confirm that this has happened? If not, I want to reach out to TBS and request they supply one as a customer.

  1. Some popular open-source protocols.

My understanding is that the two most popular MPM modules right now are configured via serial rather than PWM. Can you confirm a timeline when EthOS will support serial?

Thanks!

kroniX20S commented 2 years ago

Serial output btw should not by any means be mental property or a patent held by any other manufacturer.

If Ethos just provided serial output, I'm sure there would be a LUA Script for MPM control very soon.

This would solve most of the problem without FrSky needing any help or development from outside or competition.

It just seems to be a matter of FrSky marketing willing to do it or not.

And yes, I own an X20S, and I love it. I also own an X10S and it runs MPM.

I bought the X20S knowing MPM support isn't there, and I'm showing it round proudly in my club.

10 of the guys there would buy one immediately (mostly flying Futaba and Graupner, which more or less doesn't exist or at least probably won't exist much longer), but none of them is ready to buy 10, 12 or more new receivers and refit all their old planes, which they love but just fly like once every three years...

That's the reality.

It is Ethos and the ease of using a GUI attracting new customers (who might have been scared off by OpenTX), it's the lack of MPM and compatibility thats keeping them from buying an X20S.

dotlolz commented 2 years ago

All the ressources are on Ethos desktop suite, which is nice, but we lived without it for more than a year now, and seems no one was asking for it before it was announced, so FrSky please, at least, put some effort on what people are really asking for, and answer the damn questions about an ETA for this topic.

kroniX20S commented 2 years ago

A lot of people have been asking for that. It is important, most issues and questions asked on RCG seem to about "how to update and what firmware" - and it seems to be close to be finished.

Brilliant. Appreciated.

Keep up the good work - MPM next please.

Having that and Ethos would really leave no major desire and request unsatisfied.

External serial module support is the last MAJOR box to tick, that is the only remaining shortcoming against anybody out there

Actually, we already can update the radio. It's tidious but we can. Which is not the case of using an external module. Comfort should come after capability imho

@Adelaxie of course, you must provide support to your own modules VANTAC or DARWIN I can't understand why you manufacture and made them availavable to the end user without any official support. https://darwinfpv.com/products/darwin-elrs-2-4g-lite-tx-module

@jbienz I don't know about TBS but one thing is for sure, IRC @tonycake has already provided module samples to Frsky

andika207 commented 2 years ago

@dotlolz can you share any more details about $3000+ jets crashed because of ETHOS issues ?
why on earth would you need support for external modules if you don't even trust on this OS ? https://github.com/FrSkyRC/ETHOS-Feedback-Community/issues/1455#issuecomment-1038333808

Thanks, and yes next is about the external module support. We have not spent much time on details yet so no certain list or ETA, but the principle is as the post above. Let us wait for more patience a bit.

kakashi2018 commented 2 years ago

@bsongis-frsky can we expect this in 1.2 release. I know the new upcoming tw module and a lite radio is ELRS compatible. Can you please put an estimate date of when this will be implemented?

jbienz commented 2 years ago

@bsongis-frsky since this was closed, can you help us understand how ELRS and multi-protocol modules no work with EthOS? Was serial communications enabled with transmitter packs?

bsongis-frsky commented 2 years ago

Where do you see it's closed?

kakashi2018 commented 2 years ago

@jbienz this is not closed but all the similar issues were pulled here and closed. The main issue request for crsf support is still active.

jbienz commented 2 years ago

My mistake, I misread the other closes. Thank you for setting me straight @kakashi2018.

npirkes commented 2 years ago

Hi, are there any news with this issue?

kakashi2018 commented 2 years ago

Hi, are there any news with this issue?

Although this is the issue with most replies, I think it will only be added once the new twin module and the twin lite radio gets released as frsky officially stated that it supports ELRS. Until then there is no use in requesting support for this I guess.

andika207 commented 2 years ago

@npirkes keep calm and relax, once it's ready they will oficially announce it. this person @bsongis-frsky has been working nonstop all year round as I can remember him working last year during August while most frenchs are getting fun at the beach or elsewhere

it's not Frsky's main priority because it doesn't concern their own receivers but it's certain their sales are like to spike if they provide support for the Vantac MPM or ELRS (trending protocols) module.

personally I am more worried about the weak Quality Control, this is unacceptable for a not so new company @Adelaxie , they have not learn anything from the X20's first batch @Hobby4life

-> personally I am more worried about the weak Quality Control, this is unacceptable for a not so new company @Adelaxie Hello,Sir. The label on the silk layer was not corresponding to the connector . But the connections are correct and users do not risk anything. Not recommended to open the shell and modify the RF module for users. :)

@Adelaxie and you tell this to me rather than releasing an official statment for everybody ? this RC transmitter is not like a phone that you never need to open it up and of course many users will find this misplaced and will try to fix it by themselves.

I didn't say ''the connections aren't correct'' my words are all about weak Quality Control because you were aware of this mistake but had even decided to dispatch all defective units all over the world. What if your dealers refuse this crap and make you afford the roundtrip expenses ? Will warranty cover this issue or will you charge an extra 30 U$ as you did for the X10 due to the incorrectly selected USB-C charge connector ? How do you expect to compensate your X18's customers ?

jbienz commented 2 years ago

I'd like to kindly request that we please keep the comments in this thread related to Crossfire, ELRS and Multi-Protocol Module. Absolutely feel free to open another thread to discuss any issues you'd like. Thank you.

sgsracer256 commented 2 years ago

hello frsky professionals, do you have any progress in multi protocol module lua support ? thanks for your great work ! have a nice day !

andika207 commented 2 years ago

@sgsracer256 STOP TROLLING as the same question was arised 10 days back. ELRS and TW protocols support (not yeat ready) will come out first in time

jbienz commented 2 years ago

I'm about to buy a Habu SS and I'd like to get the AS3X BnF. Was just wondering if there are any updates on serial / MPM? I noticed this is the most commented on open issue in the repo, but I haven't seen it mentioned in any of the milestones yet. Thank you sincerely for any updates you can share.

andika207 commented 2 years ago

@jbienz LOL you think you are smarter than us all but you aren't. you come up with the excuse of buying a DSMX based model so you can push @bsongis-frsky to release MPM support ASAP. it will be ready when it's finish so do not ask the same boring question over and over again please. nothing stops you from using an alternative way while you wait @Hobby4life https://hobby4life.nl/can-irx4-be-used-with-frsky-tandem-x20s-yes-it-can/

jbienz commented 2 years ago

I didn't represent myself or my situation as anything other than truly what it is. I'm sad there is so much negativity and anger towards others on this repo. But I do appreciate the link and I'll check it out. Thank you.

jbienz commented 2 years ago

P.S. I do understand the frustration with watching people ask a question repeatedly. That is entirely valid, and I do empathize with that frustration. I also understand and respect the value of "it'll be ready when it's ready". I don't personally have expectations that this feature will be implemented in any particular timeframe. I'm still able to enjoy my X20 with the plane I bought it for.

The only reason that I (and I believe others) are asking for an update is because it doesn't appear anyone from FrSky has offered an update on its prioritization since February 27th. I understand they're under no obligation to share their prioritization, and I do respect that. I am sincerely just asking for an update on a feature that is important to me, and if the response is "we have no update" that's perfectly OK too.

I almost didn't write this message because I felt attacked by andika207. But I'm a big believer in GitHub and I truly appreciate FrSkys willingness to engage the community here. I don't want to be shamed into leaving the conversation.

FrSky, if you have anything to share that would be awesome! And if there's nothing to update, I respect that too. Thank you for all your hard work on EthOS and for an amazing TX!
