Range Check with TWR6 Twin Lite Pro latest Firmware LoRa RSSI and VFR Values are 0 #29

Open glipski50 opened 1 year ago

glipski50 commented 1 year ago

X20 Ethos 1.4.11 TWIN Lite Pro 1.0.5 EU-LBT TWR6 1.0.5

in range check the values for LoRa RSSI and LoRa VFR are (stil) 0 with the latest firmware updates. The flight data recorder has the correct data but data seems not to be transmitted for range check. This way range check does not make sense.

TWIN currently only sends one value for those items, which is displayed in the 2.4G section. It represents the lower of the two values from the receiver if both links are functioning, and the LoRA section values if the FSK has dropped.

This needs to be addressed via firmware for these receivers.

glipski50 commented 1 year ago

Are there any plans for according firmware updates for the receivers? The way it currently is the display of the range check is not very meaningful nore is it documented.

mawzthefinn commented 1 year ago

I hope so, the display was changed to support the idea of having FSK/LoRA report separately, but right now LoRA only gives data for 900M on TANDEM.

Any new information on this topic?

I also think this is important for safety. We need to be able to know that both are working properly before flying. If it doesn't average both and only shows ACCESS if ACCESS is available, then we wouldn't know if LoRa is working well or not (antenna issue, or model shadowing issue, etc). For me, even if that was only in the range test mode, that would be better than nothing.

I have asked again to our R&D director this morning. I have been said that it is something which will be improved just after CNY:

We will adapt Ethos when it is ready!

Excellent news :)

Really excellent news. Thanks

Great news ! Thank you Bertrand for your support. :)

One info you can maybe forward also to Frsky hardware designer: There is a batch of TW GR8 and GR6 (at least) where the green led (fsk) has been replaced for an orange one (i have a mix of rx with green or orange led). The issue is that they did not adapted the resistor managing the led current, then the orange led is very dimmed, close to impossible to see through the case. With the current fw, it is the only way to check if both link are ok. Then you may think that the fsk link is not working and rx is failed whereas it is working perfectly. I have a rx where the blue led is off, meaning that LoRa is not working. Hopefully, Horusrc Europe has been very reactive.

Future firmware will bring a big safety improvment with the 2 dedicated RSSI and no need anymore to pay attention to the leds.

Hello. just found this thread after worrying that I had a bad rx. Any news on when the Lora RSSI patch might be available? Quite nerve-wracking not knowing if the Lora link is alive (when the rx is burried in the plane).

Now several month have passed. As Bertrand wrote Feb 7 that the R&D Director wanted to improve RSSI and VFR telemetry just after CNY. and once available Bertrand wanted ro include this in ETHOS.

Not having RSSI for both bands is in my eyes a safety issue. Range tests and meaningfull telemetry analysis cannot be done.
