Won't install #32

Closed NickF14 closed 1 year ago

NickF14 commented 1 year ago

Despite confirming the correct .net and desktop.net runtime versions (7.04), the installer will not install pilotsdeck, instead stating to install the required versions despite this being done repeatedly.

Unsure what to do as the readme does not cover this... image

Fragtality commented 1 year ago

I assume you are NickFontana14 over at flightsim.to? Like I answered there:

Please send me the Output of the following Commands - maybe they give a Clue what the Problem could be! dotnet --info dotnet --list-runtimes

You can alternatively still install the Plugin the "old way" with the zip-Package: https://github.com/Fragtality/PilotsDeck/raw/master/PilotsDeck-latest.zip

The Path is documented in the last Paragraph of https://github.com/Fragtality/PilotsDeck#14---installation--requirements

NickF14 commented 1 year ago

Hello

I apologise, I have only just seen this email & flightsim notification.

How can I send you the dotnet -- info and run times / how do I get that info?

Thanks,

Nick

Run these Commands in a Command-Shell (aka cmd.exe) or Powershell-Window. Then either copy & paste the Output to a Text-File and attach it per drag & drop. Or copy & paste it directly in your Message (I'd prefer a Text-File though^^)

To open the Command-Shell: Press the Windows & R Key => type cmd.exe and hit Enter

NickF14 commented 1 year ago

That's what I have atm - I have tried installing the latest version of dot net but may need to do a reboot first

There is the Issue - the correct Runtimes are not listed there. So the Installer is correct in that regard, but the big Question is why they are not listed there πŸ€”

Fragtality commented 1 year ago

Are the .NET Runtimes correctly listed under "Apps and Features"?

Fragtality commented 1 year ago

Also please the Output of dotnet --list-runtimes to verify (that is the Command the Installer uses also)

NickF14 commented 1 year ago

Hi - this is the latest and this is having installed the two programmes that your installer links to. It does show there too [image: image.png]

Unfortunately not. Just say yes / no if there are the same Version Numbers :)

I don't really know what the Issue is. I've checked the Links in the Installer, they link to the correct minimum version (7.0.4). If you really never have rebooted after installing it might be a good Idea to do so ;)

NickF14 commented 1 year ago

In the control panel programmes and features it shows installed: Microsoft .NET SKD 7.0.203 (x64) Microsoft .NET Runtime - 7.0.4 (x64) Microsoft Windows Desktop Runtime - 7.0.4 (x64)

I have just re-run the commands and this is what I have.

I am extracting the PilotsDeck installer from the .zip file and running the .exe as admin.

Post reboot I have the above ^^ and have the same error within the installer.

Did you run the .NET Installers as Admin by any Chance? Try if uninstalling -> Reboot > install > Reboot helps.

Seems like a Bug from MS. As per their Documentation the installed Runtimes must show up in these Outputs (that's why I check it that way). https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/core/install/how-to-detect-installed-versions?pivots=os-windows

Fragtality commented 1 year ago

If it is really Bug with the .NET Installer/Runtime, try if the latest Version (7.0.5) makes a difference https://dotnet.microsoft.com/en-us/download/dotnet/7.0

On the run as Admin Question: If you have run the Net Installers as Admin, please don't when attempting to reinstall.

NickF14 commented 1 year ago

Hello again,

I will try all the latest versions with your installer.

In the mean time I have placed it manually as you have said. It does show PilotsDeck in my StreamDeck profiles on the right hand side where it shows additional plugins.

Other than the drag and drop, what configuring do I need to do to ensure it’s installed correctly?

Thanks!

That the Actions show up does only prove that the Plugin was placed correctly and thus the manifest-File could be read by StreamDeck. It does not mean that the Plugin is running (and therefore working).

A quick Test / respectively the common Symptom when the Plugin is not running: Drag & Drop an Action on the StreamDeck and check if the Drop-Down Fields are populated. If they are empty, the Plugin is not running. Of course checking the Task-Manager if PilotsDeck.exe is running does also show that πŸ˜… Note that it won't help if you try to start the Plugin's Binary manually - it will crash/exit immediately. It has to be called by the StreamDeck Software.

BUT: Starting the Plugin's Binary manually from the Commandline would be also interesting (or more precise the Output/Error it shows then) - if the Situation is still the same that the Runtimes do not show up under the dotnet Commands although installed. In the Output we could see if it is not starting/running because of the missing Framework or just the "normal" Error because not started through StreamDeck.

NickF14 commented 1 year ago

Hello,

That information is quite confusing to me!

When I copy buttons onto a new streamdeck profile from your plugin I do see the drop down fields. I'bve attached a photo if you can see that?

No, I still can't see Images attached from Mail. If you answer via Web you can easily drag & drop or paste it in the Message.

The Drop-Down Fields itself are always visible - but they have no List / no Content should the Plugin not run :)

Okay, then the Screenshot was of no Use πŸ˜…

Interesting, so it is basically running although the Runtimes are not listed as installed πŸ€” The the ultimate Test would be, if an Action (does not matter which) is able to read something from the Sim and able to write/trigger something.

We will see! I am just finishing this flight and then I will reboot.

I have downloaded and run the installer from flight panels for their StreamDeck profiles which utilise your plugin. It ensures the correct files are within FSIUPC7 etc, and so I will test with that to see if it works as it should shortly!

Thank you again fkr your continued help; I’ll let you know

What? Still have not rebooted and did the uninstall 7.0.4 > reboot > install 7.0.5 > reboot > test installer again? Well then do that first ^^

Well, don't know if testing with a rather complex Profile/Integration is the best Step in that unsure State. What Airplane? Then I maybe can give you a short Example for an Action to do a basic Test.

NickF14 commented 1 year ago

Somehow, I have managed to remove all of the .net runtimes and re install at v 7.0.4 - I have done nothing different to before however your installer seems to have successfully installed PilotsDek.

What is the latest version please?

Wait .... flight panels like in https://flightpanels.io/ ? Now some Dots connect oO

Well, the Profiles look nice - a really pleasing and stringent Icon-Design! But the Work you paid there is mostly for Custom Graphics and the Packaging. The Plugin and the such Things like the FBW Lua Scripts is all my Work.

For the Fenix and the FBW there are also my Profiles available on flightsim.to - both with working FCU btw πŸ˜‰ If you also fly X-Plane and/or P3D - I have also Profiles for the ToLiSS A321 and the FSLabs A320X on either x-plane.to or the FlightSim-Labs Forum/Downloads!

Ah nice, great to hear! Seems the Runtimes are now correctly listed by the dotnet Commands πŸ˜ƒ

The latest Version of .NET 7 is 7.0.5 currently. Though the Runtimes can also update automatically through Windows Update - but I honestly don't know if that's just for me because I have Visual Studio / the SDK installed or if it is for everyone because of Runtimes enable that somehow. You will see πŸ˜…

The latest official Version of the Plugin is 0.7.9 - like listed under Releases here on GitHub. You can also download the Plugin from flightsim.to and use the My Downloads or Subscribe Feature to get informed if there is a new Version available. When there is new official Version, it is always updated on both Platforms! From the first Screenshot I see that you have downloaded the latest Development-Version (Install-PilotsDeck-latest.exe) - that is also fine most of the Times! Usually when I push the latest Changes (and therefore a new -latest Installer) to GitHub it might be still Work-in-Progress, but it is something which is either tested to Work or at least very confidently expected to Work (roughly comparable to the Development Build of FBW). Don't know when you downloaded the latest Installer, but it is pretty close to the next official Release! πŸ˜‰ But still download/update to 0.7.10 when officially released in Case I did some Last-Minute-Change or Fixes!

NickF14 commented 1 year ago

Yes that's the one, although the ions are going very funny when MSFS opens up - so I'll have to try and sort that out next.... I haven't paid yet, this is just the demo

Will your plugin run with .NET newer than 7.0.4 or do I risk ruining everything again?!

Thank you!

I'm running 7.0.5 myself (like I said, it autoupdates for me) - so it should be safe for you :)

What do you mean with "icons are going very funny" ? You mean that they switch to the three Dots like so? image

That is normal Behavior for the Plugin when it is in the "Wait" State. It is waiting for the Sim to become ready!

NickF14 commented 1 year ago

Yes, exactly like that, I assumed it was dysfunctioning knowing my luck...

Hehe, understandable that you where a little "sensitive" there πŸ˜„ Then let me also say: the Dots also show up when you Pause the Sim (go into the Menu). And that the configured Error Images will show up when there is a Connection Error. So in normal Operations you'll see these briefly when you close MSFS πŸ˜‰

You're welcome, glade we could sort the mystery out :)

An nice/honest Rating would be cool, much appreciated! But don't wonder - your first Rating was removed by the Support in the mean time, as they also deemed it a bit unfair^^

Happy flying for you too :)

Im posting here a comment about my case and maybe this was actually the @NickF14 issue. I really had bad time with this issue hahaha but im posting this here to help others if they run into the same issue.

So the first i installed .NET 7.0.10 multiples times, anyway the installation was not the problem so i started to check other things in my system

i noticed something interesting when i ran:

dotnet --info

I was having the same problem as Nick. My version (7.0.10) wasn't in the list of installed .NET versions. However, I noticed that my "host" version was 6.0.10. I thought I could simply uninstall 6.0.10, but when I went to Settings > Apps, the installer for that version wasn't there. I was confused because I knew I had 6.0.10 installed, but I couldn't see it or uninstall it.

I decided to try a silly trick. I went to the .NET download page and downloaded the exact version of .NET that I had installed (6.0.10). But when I tried to install it, i got nothing, just the normal install with the "install" button and not the option to "uninstall"

At that point, I realized that I probably had the .NET x86 version installed, not the x64 version. I downloaded the x86 version and this time, I was able to uninstall the older version.

I needed to done the same with .NET 5.0.17 and finally when i did dotnet --info i got the following output:
