We need to ask what is the current status of alerting support for 3rd-party data sources.

According to some old comments, alerting support was being added: https://community.grafana.com/t/how-to-avoid-error-tsdb-handlerequest-error-could-not-find-executor-for-data-source-type-mydb/2956

Some people we able to add their data source to Grafana backend and turn on the feature: https://github.com/hawkular/hawkular-grafana-datasource/issues/47

Grafana alerting has changed: https://grafana.com/docs/grafana/latest/alerting/

This feature needs further investigation to know if alerting is now possible for 3rd party plugins.
