What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Install script on server that has "open_basedir" set
2. Run example.php
3. See error message

I was able to patch this by changing one line.
ORIGINAL
if (ini_get('safe_mode') == 'Off' || !ini_get('safe_mode')) {
NEW
if ((ini_get('open_basedir') == '') && (ini_get('safe_mode') == 'Off' ||
!ini_get('safe_mode'))) {
