-Add a “shape-by” function in addition to “color by” in order to visualize multiple categories of meta-data simultaneously. -Retain categorical color legend for more than 3 categories (as opposed to automatically switching over to continuous coloring)

In addition to the marker shape, we could also use a facet to split up specimens into different panels. Would that be a helpful option for ordination as well, @NMorella ?

Overall I'd say this falls into the category of giving the user more options to customize their plots. Based on your experience, how cluttered does the tool seem right now? Do you think that adding more options and drop-down menus would make it any harder to use, @NMorella ?

@sminot In my opinion, the more options the better! I do not find it cluttered at all. On the ordination page in particular, I suppose the ANOSIM text could be made a bit smaller to gain more real estate directly next to the plot? "Color By" and "Shape By" could also be on the same tab. You would just get two legends (one for color and one for shape) if you selected two categories instead of one.
