FreeBSD 12 Intel NUC PPYH (Braswell) HDMI no audio #120

Open basilcar007 opened 5 years ago

basilcar007 commented 5 years ago

Hi,

I have a Intel NUC PPYH: https://ark.intel.com/products/87740/Intel-NUC-Kit-NUC5PPYH

I don't get any audio from the HDMI connected to my LG HDTV (video is working fine). Tried firefox (youtube) and kodi. No audio is coming out from TV speakers.

At "/boot/loader.conf" I have: snd_hda_load="YES"

At "/etc/rc.conf" I have: kld_list="/boot/modules/i915kms.ko"

"cat /dev/sndstat" gives: Installed devices: pcm0: <Realtek ALC283 (Analog)> (play/rec) pcm1: <Realtek ALC283 (Front Analog Headphones)> (play) pcm2: <Realtek ALC283 (Internal Digital)> (play) pcm3: <Intel (0x2883) (HDMI/DP 8ch)> (play) default No devices installed from userspace.

Since at "/etc/sysctl.conf" I have appended: hw.snd.default_unit: 3

My user is in group: video

Currently, I am using the modesetting Xorg driver. I have also tried the intel Xorg driver [but soon ditched that, because of extreme artifacts showing up in plasma (aka kde5)], still no sound. I have also tried "drm-stable-kmod" with same results.

System is: FreeBSD 12.0-RELEASE r341666 GENERIC amd64 Pkg is: drm-fbsd12.0-kmod-4.16.g20181215

Since I am planning to use this NUC as HTPC, having no HDMI audio is a no-go for me... :(

drm-stable-kmod is no more; see Port Moves at https://www.freshports.org/graphics/drm-stable-kmod

You might like to try drm-legacy-kmod

basilcar007 commented 5 years ago

OK, I will try drm-legacy-kmod as a last resort (although I am not sure if Braswell graphics is supported).

If that also fails, I am going back to linux... :(

zeising commented 5 years ago

I would recommend start with graphics/drm-kmod rather than drm-legacy-kmod. Drm-legacy-kmod is the legacy driver, drm-stable-kmod is moved to drm-fbsd12.0-kmod or drm-fbsd11.2-kmod, depending on your FreeBSD version. drm-kmod is a meta port that will install the correct one for your OS version.

basilcar007 commented 5 years ago

Tried drm-legacy-kmod but still no sound! I have to admit that having no audio through HDMI in 2019 sucks!

Back to linux then, until this issue is resolved.. :-P

Still no audio through HDMI :(

In my case, this discussion helped: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=229190 .

And adding this line " compat.linuxkpi.i915_disable_power_well="0" " to loader.conf
