Various Linux Binaries not working with amdgpu driver #123

As suggestet in my PR here: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=234596 i report this problem here too. When i try to run some OpenGL Linux games the are failing. I tried games/linux-doom3 and the Linux binary from Unreal. The screen goes black and there are some error messages on the console. Below is the output of the programs. My System is a FreeBSD 12.0-RELEASE. I have an AMD Radeon RX560. The amdgpu kernel module is loaded. When i run the Programs with an NVIDIA card they are running fine, so i don't think that the problems have to do with the games itself or the linuxulator. Btw glxgears from the linux-glx-utils is also running with the Radeon card, so it looks like there is not a general Problem with the Linux binaries and OpenGL. I hope i gave you enough information to follow the problems.

Don't even try c6, CentOS 6 is waaaaay too old. linux-c6-dri packages Mesa 11.0.7 (!) which from December 2015, while Polaris GPUs were released June 2016.

https://github.com/FreeBSDDesktop/kms-drm/issues/87 you have to set LIBGL_DRI3_DISABLE=1, that might be the issue here.

glxgears from the linux-glx-utils is also running

Probably with software rendering. You can run with MESA_DEBUG=1 LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose to see some info in the console.

I have forgotten to write here that i have also tried with c7, with the same or a similar result. Screen goes black and i have to kill the X server. Also setting LIBGL_DRI3_DISABE to TRUE didn't solve the problem. (Perhaps it did but i cant see it because of the black screen)

I have plasma5 as my DE, so i tried to start from TWM. Now i can see that with LIBGL_DRI3_DISABLE linux-doom3 doesn't segfault anymore. The screen goes still black but on this WM it returns after a few seconds and i can read the console output. I don't know how to start the game in windowed mode for further testing.

I have an RX 480, I have run Linux OpenGL apps, including the Unigine Heaven benchmark. I didn't use c6 or c7, I used a chroot with an extracted Ubuntu (16.04 iirc) butt-image.

Just tried doom3 demo with c7, seeing the same segfault. Honestly, a 32-bit binary from 2004 or so is not the best thing to try to run… I'll look into modernized doom3 engines. I think I had one of them running, but there were graphics issues because Mesa RadeonSI didn't yet support a new enough compatibility profile, but now it should

upd: hm, dhewm doesn't yet support the demo version (there's a PR, but i'm not going to build it)

dhewm runs native on FreeBSD. It runs fine here with AMD and Mesa. The problems are with some Linux binaries. Running doom3 with the fullscreen parameter ends with the same error.

Perhaps... I have a further Linux game here to test: Overload. It is available in 64bit.
