Turning off ABC checkbox gives lower case, not title case #19

Concur with your observation. However I always use the "ABC" checkbox selected, which as you know capitalises the first surname title cases all other entries. As an aside, the selection of the equivalent "ABC" in the MS Windows version capitalises ALL entries and not just the first Surname.

Any comment as to which is the best solution? Since there is a checkbox I'll assume that there are some people or cases where it would be off, right?

All I can say is that the 'strict' rule for transcriptions is that you transcribe what you see. For the current series I am undertaking, the Surname is all Capitals and the remaining entries are all first letter capitals. i.e. FINK,Nathan,14 No 1884,Liverpool,10d,1139 (Note the date format is new for 1971 Death entries). Version 1.05 currently supports this format with the 'ABC' checkbox ticked.

Other transcriptions have all entries capitalised. However my Forum Volunteer Leader informed me, way back when I first started to transcribe, that not being able to capitalise every entry was not an issue.

In essence what MACBMD did provide and what BMD-X currently provides is a capability that I have been successfully using without any rejection of submissions.

However, if you did amend the software to capitalise ALL entries when the 'ABC' checkbox is ticked what would be the default position when the 'ABC' checkbox is NOT ticked? Would the default position be: NO capitalisation of any characters, Capitalisation of just the Surname, Capitalisation of the Surname and capitalisation of first letter for other entries (Which is the position of the current software with the 'ABC' box ticked)?

In the absence of other guidance might I suggest that with the 'ABC' box ticked, ALL Characters are Capitalised. With the 'ABC' box not ticked the surname is capitalised and capitalisation of first letter for other entries (the current capability)

ok, I think the best situation as mostly as suggested in the previous post.

Checkbox on, all fields are capitalized. Checkbox off, the first character is capitalized, all other characters are left alone. This way names like MacDonald can be entered as printed without interference.
