Is this epic complete?
I started using FreeBMD for research almost 20 years ago and then its coverage was not as good as it is now (coverage fairly complete up to the 1910s / 1920s, with gaps, compared with almost complete coverage to the late 1980s as of now). So if I found a marriage, with only one spouse I might look at images to try and find the other one using https://images.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/choose.pl . I might do the same for a "gap" in the BMD records, So, I would suggest that this is not really needed for images, say older than 1985.
As a transcriber, I would not normally use this, password-free, page to get images. I would use https://www.freebmd.org.uk/scan-source2.shtml which does require a log-on.
It is possible that both pages might use the same search-engine, but I can't answer that.
Thanks, Phillip. In that case, we can close this, as not needed for Researchers now (if it turns out someone does have a use for it, we can reopen).
See https://images.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/choose.pl and following pages.
Is this feature largely used by transcribers, so can remain on FreeBMD1 until phase 5? Or used by researchers - does having the images now on the details page for the record equal to this feature?
At present page refreshes every time a choice is made (e.g. marriages, then year, then quarter, then first letter of surname. Can we do better? E.g. put all known information in at the start, and then run search - or is the step process to prevent server overload?
