Island on About page, below sidebar, linking to a Newsletter page containing the last 12 PDFs
I will speak to Alison about making this happen
@geoffj-FUG @cmahoneynz
Alison's thoughts are that this could work well if she sets up the page and Chris updates monthly (support might be needed initially for Chris to be able to do this but that's not a problem).

This was discussed at the last scrum. It is proposed that we give access to researchers via the purple menu bar at the top of the page so that researchers can read the Newsletter. It is proposed that we make a rolling set of twelve (one year) of Newsletters available. They would be in pdf format (unless Alison has an alternative plan). What are your thoughts? Geoff
@cmahoneynz Chris Contrary to my message above, this is the proposed position of the Newsletter link. Geoff
Accessing via the purple menu bar would work as long as it is somewhere people are going to notice it.
They currently go out in PDF as most people regardless of type of computer/device they have can read such files so best to keep in this format. As to how far back they should go, not sure on this one. Whatever we decide, there will always be someone who wants to go further (I still have the full set of all the ones done).
One thing I would add to the newsletter page is an option for people to sign up so they can receive them.
Chris
It will unfortunately be under the About tab. The purple bar is being reconfigured to match a new FreeUKGenealogy image.
I have asked that a message be included on the Search screen to make people aware that the Newsletter is there.

@geoffj-FUG I think we are at cross-purposes: by 'accessible' I do not mean available but rather suitable for all users, regardless of disability. This would include those who use a screen reader and users who move around a page using only the keyboard, for example.
@cmahoneynz will be maintaining the webpage with the download links (I will set it up initially) i.e. he will need to upload each new newsletter and then put a link to it on the 'Newsletter' page, deleting the oldest link at the same time. The Newsletter page will be a child of the 'About' page and will be clearly signposted on 'About'.
Any other mentions are beyond my remit and control.
Suggestion: link to page could be placed in line with "News about Free UK Genealogy" in footer, additionally.
E.g. News about Free UK Genealogy | News about FreeCEN (order could be either way around)
Why not make it a rollover menu? News about FreeCEN ... Display sub menus FreeCEN FreeBMD FreeREG FreeUKGenealogy.
Geoff
It has been suggested that we need a menu item for researchers to download a copy of our Newsletter. This could be in the purple bar at the top of the researchers search page. Chris could upload each newsletter here as a pdf and members of the public could then click on the link and open the pdf on their screen. This increases our public profile and encourages interested researchers to regularly come back to our site. Some may eventually become volunteers.
