Chris has suggested the following:
Now for some related suggestions (which may be easier said than done):
• A coordinators ability to amend/remove alternative place names should be limited to those in the county they coordinate
• Coordinators to be notified when an alternative name has been amended/removed that is one in the county they coordinate. As the coordinator is the one with the local knowledge, they may have a valid reason on why an alternative name should remain as is
• Any changes to the gazetteer, whether it is an amendment of an existing name, removal or a place name, or addition of a new name (either primary, or alternative) to be vetted with the person making the request notified of the outcome
We are gradually tightening up the ability to amend the Gazetteer. Chris' suggestions are in keeping with the restrictions we are placing on the pre-validation data. Other coordinators have asked for feedback on changes to the places in their counties.
