My suggestion is to use JetPack and/or WordFence. They are both popular and there is nothing to say that you can't use both to get a little overlap in protection. Both have free and also paid versions. Depending what you need, the free versions aren't bad. JetPack does other things, as well, such as Backup and has other tools. WordFence is heavy-duty firewall protection.
