Search on parents #1491

Other search sites (including FreeBMD for births) have an option to enter only the parent/s name when searching baptisms, thus facilitating a search for siblings. Please would it be possible for this to be added to FreeREG search options? The "Family members" option in FreeREG produces very broad results. Quote from a contact yesterday--- "Familysearch.org has been able to include this in their search since Adam was a boy!!"

The facility to search on Family members is not as user-friendly as the ability to include one or both parents specifically in the search. eg Ancestry, FMP and FreeBMD

Perhaps the insructions for the use of the Family members facility could be made clearer and more obvious on the search page? Latest quote from contact--- "That has to be the most backhanded Irish way of doing things!! I have been in touch with several genealogists since i received your email and no one was aware of this facility, maybe an instruction could be added to the search page. Thanks"

FYI, as a person who thinks literally by default, I find over exaggerated phrases such as "since Adam was a boy" very irritating. As a person of Irish descent, "the most backhanded Irish way of doing things" is insulting in equal measure. I'm sure the original developers did what they did for a good reason. Maybe if researchers read the 'Help' page, they would be enlightened.

These were quotes from a contact, I do try to deal with them as diplomatically as possible, but cannot be held responsible for the content of their communications.

I do not hold you responsible at all. ('FYI' was a poor choice — apologies). I just wish people would think before churning out a message. One would hope that they would first consider the possible impact of their words a little more carefully, especially when they are asking a favour, in effect.

This has been a vexed issue since at least 2014. It is the search options which are in question, not the quality of the help.

Pending making the Search options more noticeable, we could do with adding instructions on using the (advanced?) search options to get the most out of them.
