Sorry for type: it should have referred to the 2nd and 3rd items.
@Sherlock21 can you clarify - what needs changing to what (and why on t3?)
in the second and third items in the post created for me by Sandra, above, the char which is the dash on the keyboard and the one like an underscore, both could be anything, compared with the 4th item where there are "fixing" markers by the [ ] usage where the character between [ ] can only be an underscore character.
The things i wish to have clarified could be sitting on line if there we're one, or could be mid line and in isolation in the application in a transcription, could be one dash, or 2 dashes or one underscore_ or two __
Why on T3? - well that's where I was testing something else, and looked up the guidance which I found not specific enough.
May be needed on Production as well if its the same there.
Thanks. How about I can see one character that could be anything
Use a dash, e.g. Dav-s
I can see two characters that could be anything
Use an underscore, e.g. Da_s
Thank you Pat - but that just shows the confusion.
F1 Rules showed exactly what was required and demonstrated it very clear in the way it was typed out. So F1 is the way the data to date was compiled. - just like the way you have it in your previous comment.
But that clarity is missing in the way the single character - or _ is each on a line of its own in FR Notes.
If you still have the FR1 rules, could you copy/paste or screenshot them here?

The FR1 help pages are still available but not easy to find. Try this:- http://freereg1.freereg.org.uk/howto/transcribe.htm
UCF section on production, https://www.freereg.org.uk/cms/information-for-transcribers/dealing-with-uncertainty, updated to remove any possible ambiguity. (Neither symbol is a "dash", or indeed, a hyphen.)
Test3 not updated.
Sorry, Pat. I don’t have a copy - and now we can’t get to it online either.
