As far as I am aware there is really no such thing as it applies to registers and the BMD indexes.
Such a restriction was applied to census information to protect personal infoormation.
Some RO have applied that as a condition of their license to us for the use their images. IMHO their basis for doing is based on their applying the census restriction to registers without any legal foundation
This is the type of question that should be posed to those with legal background

Where are we with the 100 year rule? We have just received images of a MA register book from 1837 to 1965. If we are not to included entries less than 100 years ago, it will mean, without a programmed system, that we will have to omit transcribing recent entries and the transcriber will have to remember every year for the next 48 years to transcribe one more year. My guess is that these images will just get forgotten. The RAP report will show up these untranscribed images, but it will be a nuisance to have to check it every year and return to transcribing just a few more entries.

I thought that we agreed that we would put in the 100 year rule until we have the means to vary it depending on the Source of the images or transcription. It also needs to be the default for what has been done so far.
Eric to handle the incidences where transcriptions (more recent than a year rule) in order to ensure these are not lost.
