Improve Onboarding, Training section for new transcribers in members area, and Help for Transcribers

The training process should be triggered once new transcribers are set up in the members' area. Automated as much as possible.

I need to gather the existing resources Jo uses, and possibly have two training modules; one for people who are new to transcribing, and one for people who have transcribed before, but are new to uploading to FreeREG?

Yes please. Great idea.

Denise, Please work closely with Jo because she has done a lot of training over the last few years. She has seen all the mistakes people make. There will also need to be different training for WinREG, Excel for Mac users, and Online data entry, which can be done now but will be improved over the years. Is Pat going to get a volunteer to help you, or do you want to do this, and will Alison be involved as she has done the Help pages? EricD

I have asked around about how Coordinators train new volunteers, but there are many versions. So I think what is needed as an introductory system as an Action when anyone logs in called "Training". Here they will be able to access a series of documents depending on which Project they will be working on, and their level of experience. These documents should be easily edited by management as we develop the system and projects advance. The options chosen by the new transcriber should be recorded against their UserID and Syndicate Coordinators should be able to list this information for their Syndicate members. This can be developed under Test3 and the wording developed there.

The "Training" Action should be structured under these headings:-

  1. Overview
  2. Transcribing software
  3. Practice registers
  4. Uploading to the database
  5. Correcting errors 6 Managing your transcriptions
  6. Getting Help
