Ireland Records #2323

Barrie Robinson has offered to help set up the Ireland Places. The records are already available to search for free So as a short term opton should we set up the Places and Churches and enter a link to the free records? We need to decide what has to be done to make these records come up in the list of Searchable places and set other standards for setting it up. But we must not confuse Birth records with Baptism records, unless FreeBMD cannot take Ireland records. Also, as a general principle I am not keen to include website links. They tend to get out of date and any failed link is very offputting for a researcher. We need a system to check them from time to time and someone to keep them uptodate. GENUKI is a good example where the links we did include no longer work.

Are you referring to NI or Eire? or both? Pease remember that I have already created the Counties and Place Names for NI.

Also please remember the last time I looked neither NI nor Eire are within the terms of reference for our Charity - if that matters Having said the above, based on the struggle I have with deciding upon the NI Place Names as we know them, its virtually impossible since their locations appear to be Feudal Manor based and bare little relation to places as we have - ie Habitation Manes provided by the Association of Counties.

@PatReynolds to take forwards - to talk to Irish records folk and ask Barrie to set up churches, Eric booker to set up places - may need issue with grid refs in Ireland resolved.
