Currently there is a derived field, Person sex - do we also want to start transcribing the text which led to that informati

In FreeReg, Well is it really "derived" ? the Parish Register uses the word SON or DAU [ sometimes just "s' or "d"] which we convert into M orF . but is that "derived"? is it too much of a stretch of TWYS?

I always think of what use will be made of this field.  We do need M
or F as that could be used to filter the search, as it is in the
Census.  But in FR we do not have this filter, so this field is now
just for information.
But could it be used by academic researchers to do statistical
analysis?  Is it really essential to be standardised?  Do we really
need to increase the work of transcribing and the fields on the
database?  E

If the field is there, and we populate it with something, then the better structured the data is, the more use for research in the future- even if we have no plans fro doing / allowing stats analysis.
