I'm looking at libimxdmabuffer, libimxvpuapi, and gstreamer-imx upgrades, along with improvements to the way PACKAGECONFIG_GL is set in gstreamer1.0-plugins-base. And I think these changes will be possible to backport to kirkstone and dunfell.
