hiddencheck should be the default, maybe issue a warning if it's not detected

Could you try the latest release? It will report in the error message how much video memory has been detected.

If you have less than 32k of video memory, the graphics get corrupted while playing one or two levels. Here's a video of what corrupted graphics will look like.
