Hello, I just encountered the same exact issue, and after some investigating I have found the solution.
I had this issue because I didn't have the rust compile target i686-unknown-linux-gnu
installed. My system-wide rust installation is managed by rustup
, so in my case I just ran:
rustup target add i686-unknown-linux-gnu
as non-root. If your system does not use rustup, I hope this can at least point you towards a solution.
For quick testing, you can navigate to the proton-tkg/external-resources/Proton/media-converter
directory and run make
, since that is the component that failed here.
Hope this helps
it works thank you

kubuntu 20.04 no user patches
_staging_version="440e5eee17d722f8528c69c7318fbbca7c5f1b0c"
on clean install it threw the same error. But locale was japanese so I setLANG=C
and run it again
