Definitely. One of my original pipe dream ideas for FSP was to let you play through gen 1 or 2 in the other generation's graphics.

I doubt GameStartr would be up to the graphical drain right now. If and when the graphics pipeline gets bumped to WebGL. https://github.com/FullScreenShenanigans/PixelDrawr/issues/13
Similar to how Mario Maker lets you swap between retro tilesets and modern tilesets in order to get a different look/feel in the game, being able to swap to gen 2 or 3 sprites could be interesting to look into.
